Discussion Starter #1
Hi all, I have been hit with a sudden issue with my Vegas not starting. It was fine two days before, but went to start it and the starter motor turned very slow..like the battery was flat. So I tried jumper-pack and charging the battery, but all I get is a clicking solenoid or slow starter motor. I bridged the solenoid - works fine, I put jumper direct to starter - solenoid clicks. I then removed the starter motor and when tested on the bench, it spins fine, but of course without resistance. I getting a specialist to check the starter before I put it back in, but if it's fine, then all that it is left is a bad earth ground.

Two questions:
1. Anyone got similar experience?...the bike has only done 3000 miles, and I understand Victory do not have a reputation for issues like this.
2. Where are the earth ground points on a Vegas that would need to be checked? There must be one between frame and bike which would be the prime suspect.

Thanks!

You probably have a stuck brush in the starter. I had a similar problem. If you have battery voltage at th starter this is where I would start. The victory starter uses the same brushes as some kohler engines. I bought my kit off eBay for $20. I can look it up after work. It's not a difficult job.

I brought my armature to my local alternator/starter shop to have it inspected. The guy walked out back, chucked it in the lathe and brought it back 45 seconds later. I thought I would have time to go run some errands and get some cash while I waited. Ended up scrounging up a couple bucks in change in my car. He charged me $1. Great local shop, with superb customer service.
