So the starter relay on my '02 seems to be fried seeing as how my bike keeps trying to start when it's running and without a key in it. Anyone have any cross referencing info on getting one without paying those fantastic dealer prices? I have no idea where to start.

NAPA has a 40amp breaker p/n 782-3116 cheap.

How old is the battery. If its old and weak it will do the same thing

Battery was on it's last legs, but I just finished charging a new one. This had happened once towards the end of riding season last year but it freed up after some tinkering. That breaker will replace the stock relay? That would be perfect.

V92C Starter Relay

You might have resolved this already? If you take the relay off it is actually (off of the top of my head - it is a Bosch part, with a part number stamped right on it). A google search lead me to a supplier in Vegas that stocks the part it was $75 vice the $300 Polaris wants for it (it is the exact same part). Polaris has its own part number for it. Swapped it out on my wifes bike last year and it has been working like a charm since.

Her's went as we used her bike to boost another bike several times on a long trip that was having electrical problems. When hers went it was the same issue you decribed, started it and the starter would not shut off....tapping the relay (contacts were stuck) resolved the problem....sourced and replaced the relay when we got home from the ride.

Lesson from this one - if a bike is having electrical problems....step #1 check to ensure the main ground wire from the battery is tightly secured to the frame stud. Step#2 first opportunity remove the main ground wire and sand the stud/frame connection and retighten it. 90% of electrical issues are the result of a poor ground.

The ground was fine. That was the first thing I checked when it happened. It wasn't the battery either, since it kept doing it after I replaced it. As for that solenoid, would it have worked on an earlier, different model bike? I ended up bringing it to the dealer, and they're backed up. Nothing like a riding season that won't begin for me until mid-June.

Starter Relay

May not be too late if they haven't started the work on it? Easy part to both get at and replace....couple bolts and one pigtail...get the stamped part number off the solinoid itself (which is different than the Polaris part number) and google it you'll find several suppliers...couple hundred bucks difference for the part alone is several tanks of gas....15 min job that the dealer is going to charge you an hour of labour for?

The old part number will cross reference to a new part number either one will work as they are the same part...just a relay, and will direct fit.

Unfortunately I am at work again (yes, of course working hard)...or I would send you the direct link, which will eark you even more when you see the part is listed at only $75.

I noticed your post. my XC just makes a click click noise when I push the starter button. do you think its the relay? have you replaced it on your 11 xr?
