A few days back, I started a thread about "severe front end wobble." I got lots of responses as to what the cause might be. Took it to the dealer, he re-balanced the tire and put on another 2 oz. I wound up with 3 weights on one side of the wheel and 1 weight on the other. Took it out, got up to 110 MPH (according to the speedometer). So I figure closer to 100 MPH. It wobbled again, but not as much. Tried opening the vents, closing the vents, same problem. So, I took it back to the dealer. They put on a new tire. Took it out, same problem, at almost the same speed. They told me they checked the wheel bearings, the head bearings (I think) and everything else. Suggested I take the pressure down on the shocks. Took it from 45 to 20. Took it out again, same problem. Brought it back and they started a dialogue with Victory. Haven't heard anything back. I pretty much explained to them that I was the ONLY CCT out there that had this problem. figure I was actually doing about 100 MPH. They told me that Victory would say that doing 110 wasn't what this bike was designed to do. blah blah blah. Dealer talked about taking it on consignment and/or calling an actual 'victory tech." EVERY bike I've had in my life that was capable of going over 100 MPH did not EVER have this problem. Everything I've read on the web, NOBODY else is having this problem. It was even suggested that I take off the rear trunk. WTF! The bike was designed with the trunk on it. They've even admitted that they know of other CCT riders that go at that speed and are not having that problem. So, I tell them, it's MY bike. Shouldn't happen. No granted, doin' 110 isn't the safe thing to do and it';s not something I do all the time, but when I do, I expect it to be stable. I imagine riding behind a semi-truck, doin' about 80. I want to pass. Drop it down a gear, get past quick ( I always worry about tires blowing out just as I come along side), get it up to 100 plus, and then start wobblin'. Seems like a "tour" bike would be cabable of doing 100 MPH (actual) and not have this problem. Victory hasn't got back to the service department yet, with their claim, but I'll keep you posted. The GM says we strive for 100% satisfaction. I'll loose my ass on this thing if I have to sell it. Just installed the LLoydsz hi performance cams, put in a power commamder 5, and an auto tune ( I also have the tri-oval exhausts.) 19 bikes in my life and this is the first time I've had this kind of trouble. I even tried to "power through" some of the wobble, but got too nervous because nothing improved. I'll keep you posted. Would like to hear from anybody who has gone at that speed and NOT had this kind of problem.

When the tire was replaced, was it replaced with the same model of tire? Perhaps it's that specific type of tire the bike don't like? I don't ride a CC but I've been up to 100 mph and was solid as a rock. I know that the KP likes to have a bias ply on the rear. Using a radial on the rear will likely result in a high speed wobble especially if windshield and bags are installed...nothing wrong with the bike...just the tire. Maybe something of this nature is what's going on with your bike. Just a thought

Had my bike up on my lift to do a project and while up there, I checked the steering head bearings and found them to be loose. !3,000 miles is a little low for that I think. Snugged 'em up (which is super easy to do on the XR) and while I had my trusty torque wrench in hand, I checked all the pinch bolts and other fasteners. All except the caliper mounting bolts needed a bit of tightening. I have yet to do the Ton, but felt some improvement on the next ride. Used to hear a clunk when hitting a sharp bump, not any more. I thought maybe you could benefit from the above info. Good luck Greg.

I've been north of 100 mph exactly once, but had NO wobbling or unstableness. I had a 2002 Goldwing, and it was a horrible wobbler at about 35mph or so...

I'd verify they did check the steering head bearing. If I'd suspect an aerodynamic induced problem. Take off the lowers and the trunk then see if the problem went away. If so put them on one at a time and recheck until you find what is causing the problem.

I've not taken my new one past 100 yet, but over 90 many times. No wobble. My 2011 was frequently over 100, no problems.

One question is you mentioned balancing the tire, what about the rear tire? I've had a bad rear tire (on a goldwing) that I would have sworn wasn't the problem, but with a new rear, I was stable in high speed curves again. Just a thought, I know it's not your situation, but may be worth a look.

It's a MOTORCYCLE people, what are you thinking? I try to get up and over that each and every time I take the bike out.... a fast engine is a happy engine.

Try convincing those folks that use one just to get them to the local tavern. cheers

while i am no hotdog - i often cruise at 75-85 and touch 95 on a regular basis in passing just for fun... and have had her to ??115 indicated?? more than a few times - the ?? is because at that speed i don't look down too long....the bike is 3yo, approaching 30k and no issues...

I have noticed a "gentle weave" over 100mph on a few occasions. The first was on the ride home from the dealer, when I bought the bike. It's subtle, and nothing like the "severe wobble" that you describe. But it could be part of the problem, in conjunction with another issue, your bike may have.

Cycleworld experienced the same thing too: "If you’re really burning fuel at Boeing rates you’ll also notice the gentle high-speed weave that every CCT on the launch exhibited above 100 mph."

I don't notice it as much now, but that could be due to any number of factors. 1. I don't ride that fast for sustained periods anymore. I never feel it if I am just blowing past a line of cars and settling down to a more "license friendly" speed; 2. I don't ride with the trunk on very much; 3. I have swapped the large CCT windshield for a Klockwerks.

I've got the trunk on right now. If I notice it again, I'll let you know. If the weave doesn't present itself, the tall windshield could be a factor.

spent 2 hours last week dancing around the triple-digit mark, but the XR doesn't have a fairing. Too bad you can't just drop the fairing off to troubleshoot the likelihood of an aerodynamic problem. But that'd leave you with no gauges.

Damn Squeak. That sucks! Please post up any findings. Even if it's rare, knowledge is good as I'd hate for my wife to experience anything like that on hers.

Like others have said, the rear could be the culprit ?

Sorry you couldn't tag along for Pikes Peak. It was awesome!!!

Its not the faring or windshield. If it was a million guys would have the problem.

Check to see if wheels are aligned correct.

I have experience some... lets say nervousness in the front end at higher speeds. If you give the bars a good wiggle at the right frequency the bike will oscillate a bit.

I have experienced this on every Cross bike I have taken to 80 or above... specifically testing for it at Daytona this spring.

That being said, too much air in the rear tire will make it a lot worse, as will not aligning the front end properly after a tire is installed.

If the wobble starts your handle bars moving it is more than likely a loose head bearing. Especially if you are only getting it above 90 MPH. I have been through this and that was what it was. The other kicker is that you need a special tool to set the torque on the nut for the bearing and my dealer did not have one!! Torque for the bearing nut is 29 lbs and then backed off 90 degrees. 20mm triple clamp bolt at the top of the tree is 72 lbs. If all they are checking is the clamp bolt then they are being lazy.

Had my '13 CC up to and running at the max 120 mph yesterday and no wobble. I have a flip windshield and that does exert some additional downforce on the front end. As I was lying in bed last night reflecting on what a dumb move that was, I thanked the Good Lord and promised not to do it again ... but then I said the same thing after running the VTX up to an indicated 134 ... darn motorcycles.

Ummm...I want to say that I know this person who has a CCT who rides north of 100 from time to time....OK...a lot. He says he knows its not smart, but can be fun, and he does not have any wobble problem.

What tire pressure are you running? I have a kingpin and when I switched to radials I had a wobble. Dropped the rear 4 lbs wobble was gone. And this may be a long shot. Check your mirrors and make sure the angle is the same. Check wind deflectors if you have any also highway pegs. You would be surprised how something so small cuts the wind and affects the handling.
