Read that a couple of u remove the stock muffler, and run the bike without them. Some people noted power loss could be caused by this.

I couldn't tell any power loss and there was mo popping. (with o2 still hooked up)

Besides power loss, what are some othe disadvantages or advantages(sounds pretty good)

My real concern is whether or not I'm damaging the bike. Am I making it run hotter?

You wouldn't necessarily be damaging the engine... as long as everything else about running it is in order. All that you are doing is opening up the exhaust (air out)... it's done all the time with after market pipes. I would be more concerned with the shorter pipes creating heat issues to you and to the rear portions of the bike... I have always believed in moving hot exhaust gases away from things.

I was thinking of putting some turnouts on to direct the hot air away.

Wild ass guess- But unhooking the O2 probably sets the bike to full rich condition, helping to lower the engine temp and help with decel popping.

Please correct me if I am peeing against the wind here.

Did you need any time of fuel adjuster for this upgrade?

On top of pulling the mufflers completely defeating the design of the system for the performance characteristics for which it was intended, I think it'd be uglier than sin also.

If it's more/better sound you're after, I'd invest in either a full exhaust system swap, or find some aftermarket matching slip-on mufflers for the stock headers. RPW comes to mind for slip-on's.. Haven't read much but I bet they perform well, and sound good. Unfortunately, they're almost as much, within a hundred or two $, as expensive as a full system.

Whichever option you go with, the stock bike will have a factory-induced lean fuel/air condition only more extreme if the exhaust is free-flowing, so you'll have that to address as well or it'll be rediculously lean.
