I would appreciate your comments regarding pulling and using motorcycle tent trailers with Vic baggers.

I used to pull a cyclemate cargo trailer with a Kawasaki concours. Liked pulling it but haven't had a hitch on my last four bikes. still have the trailer. Planning on getting hitch for the crossroads. We talked about a popup for awhile and decided on a tent big and tall enough to stand in next to the air mattress for getting dressed. It takes less time to set up, cost of course is better. The one down side is your on the ground in wet conditions. No problem yet. My wife rides her own bike so we can pack a lot even with out a trailer. We have been gone for 2 wks at a time. Not really answering your ?, just our experience.

Been pulling trailers for over 30 years. Moved up to tent trailers after about 2 years - I am biased - but I like them! Off the ground, can carry more than you need, just plain comfortable. And, they look good sitting in front of a Motel if you feel like splurging! I now have a Tiny Mite pop up tent trailer - had a couple of Combi-camps ( they are like the Leesure Lite) and one home made. Combi was the quickest set up but heavier - Tiny Mite is the lightest so far. I haven't pulled it with the XCT as it is still at Stealer for Recall ( 22 days and counting) but will be putting hitch on it as soon as I get it back. I don't see any problems with the XCT pulling it - I mean come on - my 2006 Kawaski Nomad 1600 Road-Turd drug it around with no real problems ( except Nomad was lacking HP!) I affectionaly called it the Road Turd as when I first got it stock it was literally a Road Turd!! After modifications it went okay ( not a Victory) but it was better than a stock HD Decker!

I have to say, I was very excited about the idea of pulling a trailer. In fact, it's one of the reasons I got the V92's beastly 1500cc. However, reading the owners manual for the '99-00 V92C, it says that it's not meant to pull trailers and specifically said not to because it was not made for that purpose.

Now, I've built off-road rigs from the ground up, built expedition vehicles, built race cars and bikes, conversion vans... In every case where I started with a stock vehicle, I modified it to perform functions that the vehicle was not originally intended to do. I'm not one to look at a manual and leave it alone. It's just not my nature.

But it brings up questions:
- Does any of the Victory Owners Manuals state that the particular bike is meant to pull trailers? Which ones are to pull trailers and which ones aren't?
- Why would Victory state that the V92 not pull trailers? What's missing in the design?

I've not pulled trailers with motorcycles (I have with bicycles), so I'm not familiar with how it changes the handling. But what's missing that Victory would bold that text? Is the swingarm not meant for lateral movement? Will it chew through sprockets and belts?

I'm pretty sure I've seen hitches for the '99s. Do they just put them on and go anyway?

It's a very curious thing to me. I could use some help with advice on the subject.

Update - threw the hitch on and wired everything up. Took it out for a spin - man, this Victory pulls like a dream!!! Nice power, hardly notice the trailer back there. I didn't take it on a long trip but the mileage doesn't seem to drop all that much - not like the Nomad. This thing is way more like my first gen Venture's - lots of torque, not hard on fuel, very nimble!

We pulled a Leesur-Lite with our XCT last summer. We were loaded heavy. The XCT handled it quite well. Much better than our Royal Star Venture did. Since we live on the West Coast of Canada and do a lot of riding in the mountains, the XCT did have to work at pulling that trailer up some of those hills ... but it did it.

Sold the trailer in the fall in favor of cabins or motels. Guess I'm just getting too old for the camping scene and the associated work of setting up/taking down and crappy weather.

I just picked up a new Aspen Classic about a month ago. Up until now my wife and I had been tenting it. That was getting old. Only 1 trip so far, around five hundred miles. We like it very much. Comfortable and we are able to pack more comforts of home!

After some fiddling I found the right tongue weight and it seems to pull very well. It's stable running down the road at 70 or 75. MPGs went down a bit but that is to be expected.

The hitch and wiring were a bit expensive but easy enough to install. All and all it looks like we should enjoy this setup for a long time. Running the rig up to New York for a meet in July. I should have a very good idea of how this is going to work after that trip.
