While in Sturgis this year, I test rode the XCT for about 75 total miles, and for the most part, I came away extremely impressed with the bike. The components of my evaluation included ride quality (suspension / handling), power, braking, and comfort.

* Ride quality: Very impressed with the suspension as it provided outstanding ride quality, without giving up the feel of the road. Sure footed in the corners and a breeze over the RR tracks. I experienced no buffeting at all with the new wind management system and taller windshield. Heated grips worked well, and are nice touch.
* Power was also good, especially the mid-range as we quickly got up to 80 mph on the interstate, and I found the transmission to shift in a smooth, deliberate manner.
* Braking was outstanding as the bike stopped straight and true. I love ABS.
* Comfort is there. The XCT's ergonomics are well thought out provide the rider many options to ensure a comfortable ride.
* Dislikes: Man the sound of the motor in the stock configuration just sucks. I understand that this is easily mitigated, but still......
* The handlebar positioning / pull back did not work for me. I was reaching forward making any type of long range riding an uncomfortable proposition.
* Not sure about the seat either. Needs a back rest for sure, and perhaps more support.

I am interested to hear any feedback on what you guys are doing to improve the exhaust note. Is anyone removing the cat from the header pipe? I am not a big fan of this heat making, power sapping component. Also, I understand that SRVT bars are out there, and I ran across Heli Bars in Sturgis and they now have a XCT adjustable handlebar, but the $799 price tag is a bit over the top. Any other options here?

I have been lurking around this site for over a year. I have been riding ~ 10,000 miles per year on a HD Road King & Road Glides since 2005. My current bike is a 2009 CVO Road Glide. Now that ABS, and hard lowers are available, I am looking hard at the new XCT, and getting closer to pulling the trigger every day. Sorry for the dissertation, but a lot of good informational exchange takes place on this site, and I appreciate learning from some your experiences.

Victory and SRVT have the +2" pullback bars. I'm using the SRVT and they work very well. The Vic bars aren't available yet and the SRVT bars are available sporadically.

Victory and Utopia both offer a rider backrest. I'm using the Utopia and I'm happy with it but it's wider than the Victory model so your personal preference comes into play plus it's good to know the Victory backrest is skinny at the bottom to allow for a passenger's legs for those who might have trouble with the wider Utopia.

Most people do the basic inexpensive upgrades to get some power and sound out of the bike but there are certainly some good ways to improve on both including cams, fuel controller, and mufflers. No need to remove the cat's on these bikes and it isn't easy. Someone will come up with some replacement head pipes to take care of this if it's important to you.

Thanks for the insights. I appreciate the pictures, and I like the apes idea. Would consider if a 10" bar (mini apes like the Wild Ones) if available, and the SRVT's seem to get good reviews, but I would need to see them, and try them.

You should include your height in the writeup because the bar reach isn't really an issue with the bike (same reach as other XC's, and it's not a common problem) this is an issue for you, and other shorter riders. I'm a common 6' and the reach was perfect for me.

Can't knock the exhaust either, no company is allowed to put out a street legal machine with a nice exhaust, not even Harley. You want the proper sound on any bike, you must buy aftermarket pipes.

Nice to hear that the air management system works well though! thumb up

I'm 5'9 and the X bikes were a bit of a reach for me. On one of the Fuel Demo rides there was a guy 6'0 that didn;t like the fact he had to reach so far.

Dave the best thing to do is call Preston and tell him what you are looking for in regard to bars. He will tell you how to measure yourself for the correct dimensions. He will make you a set for a lot less than a pair of Vic bars.

+1 on Bandits exhaust comment! I rode a HD Wide Glide last week when the comparison trailer came to town. At idle the Wide Glide sounded much better than the Vegas they matched it with but on the road (on the throttle) the Vegas sounded much better. They also had a HD Street Glide and the exhaust was just as mild as its XC match. Note that HD's have just as much engine noise as Victorys -- it's just harder to tell with the HD's because most owners get pipes added before they leave the dealership.

Nice writeup' cant wait to test ride the Tour myself, cant decide whether to sell my 2011 and get a Tour or just get the new lowers etal. Really would like the ABS but have already added cams and variable heat controls to mine, so makes itexpensive to get the Tour

Great feedback gents....For the record, I am 6 feet even and 180 lbs. I like more pullback with the handlebar, and I currently have the Wild One 517's on my soon to be sold CVO Road Glide. I will be sure to give Preston a call next week to discuss my needs and options.

Dave, I also sold a RoadGlide to get my 2011 XC, and have never regretted it. With the new Tour, it will be even better. I like Harleys but just got tired of the (no) suspension.
