I saw a video about the Vision's tip over protection and I am wondering if the XC has that capability as well.

I had the unfortunate experience once with my VTX that it died at an up hill stop just as I was taking off. Honestly I think I had some bad gas. Anyhow it stalled and was stopped, I had control but it slowly layed over to the right. I have crash bars and the VTX did just ease over and they held it up, so I hopped off and got it upright. The VTX weighs about 680# and it was not easy but I did it by just grabbing the bars and tipping it back up.

So, if that happened on a XC do you thing the crash bars would act the same? Anyone else have this happen and is it hard to get back up?

The Vision is heavier but I saw a video of a girl putting it on the center stand all by herself. I also saw a guy flopping it over on it's side and picking it up (also pretty easily). Curious if Vic engineered that balance/protection into the XC.

The balance is there on the XC.
But not the specific tip over rails that the vision has.
The Highway bars will help keep the bike off you during a slow manuver like you described. But, it will be further tipped over than a vision. And, thus tougher to pick up by yourself.

I can pick the bike back up. But, most guys I ride with, wouldn't have a chance by themselves. Yes, they are old and out of shape...

Hi Henry, I am 52 and I do work out BUT I was glad I could straighten up the VTX. I think if I let go of my VTX it would have sat there. Do you think the XC would as well?

I am 5'9" and about 185#. Not big but most any of us are no match for most heavy cruisers. I hope to never find out again but as I shop for which Vic (Vision or XC) I want to weigh these things.

I have had two friends that tipped there bikes over that I recall. Recently it was a guy with a Goldwing. He said it took him and his wife. Years a go a friend (small guy) had his Harly bagger fall over and it took him, his wife and her GF.... That must have been a sight.

I REALLY appreciate the fast reply.

Yes, if tips over slowly or is let down easy, it will rest on the floorboards, then the crash bars. But, the rear doesn't come with any tip over protection standard. I added the hardbag rails, so if I lay it down, it will set down on the rails and not crush the bags...
XC is going to come in somewhere around 800lbs, without trunk and gear... A little lighter than a Goldwing. But, certainly not easily pushed around. Fairly easy for 2 people to lift. But, for 1 person, your going to have to be strong, and get your legs into it properly.

5'10"/200lbs & no problems lifting my XC

I have the '11 Ness XC and yes, I did set it on it's side in a parking lot the 2nd day I owned it (front brake slow maneuvering got me). It was bike week so about 3 guys had headed my way before the bike was all the way tot he ground...LOL.

In any event, I had the option of help but wanted to ensure that I could do it myself and had no problem. I do have the lock & ride trunk and the bike does tip the scales at 750LBS but it's balanced really well. I am 5'10" and 200lbs but my legs are a good bit stronger than most as I was a competitive water skier (in my day some 30 years ago). In any case, I had absolutely no problem righting her on pavement. I can see potentials for difficulty if the surface were gravel.

Also note that although I was not moving forward when it was set down, the bags had only a slight paint scraped off of them but took no appreciable damage beyond minor cosmetics (and to see that you have to get on your knees). So, the rear bag protectors DO help but IMHO they kinda ruin the lines of the bike.

NDA, Did you face the XC and pick it up or did you do the butt on the seat method facing away from the bike?

Butt on seat (or actually more like "against the side of the seat"). One hand on bars and other hand on rear trunk bracket (I had gloves on so no issues there). I'm not certain how you would grab the rear as easily without that bracket though. Three smallish steps and the bike was upright.

I'm not quite as lucky to have much leverage being smaller and some arthritis, but I've been with buddy's who have gone over ( and yes I admit to it too, Road Kings are heavy!) and we simply help each other(sometimes it'll cost you a beer )... and seen a few unlucky souls go down without fellow passengers and I ALWAYS see a car pulled over to help. Heck, I've been pushed backwards by friends stuck on a sloped parking spot (yea considering the reverse gear for the XC but buying beers are cheaper)

Don't get a hernia over your fear of embarrassment ... people are not always jackasses.

The problem most of the time is the rider gets embarassed and hurries and tries to lift the bike up. Not many people are going to lift several hundred pounds.

Watch the "Ride like a Pro III video" and you will see how motormans 120# wife can pick up 900# gold wing by herself. It's all how its done and not how strong you are. I have laid my 08 GW on its side to change rear tire and once you figure it out you will not believe how easy it is to get it back up. When I first got the GW there was no way I could get it on center stand, but finally someone showed me the technique and it became almost effortless.

I haven't dropped the 11 Ness XC yet but someday you never know, might happen.

The video suggests getting some carpet to lay bike on and practice with somone to spot you. It does work.

If you have the XC with forged crash bars, just get the custom Bag Guards made by Arizona Victory & you will be as well protected as a Vision. There have been a few cases on the forum where the bike was left idling on the kickstand & rolled forward & tipped over doing serious damage to the saddlebag. Not only do the guards protect, they look sharp!
Check out the pic of my ride with them installed.

I have the same exact bike, down to the color. With the bag protectors from Arizona Victory installed a drop is no problem. Dropped mine after it was all loaded for a trip to Sturgis, dumb move dropped it in the garage. NO damage what so ever. Works just as the Vision does. I do carry a soft tie to slip thru the front of the rear crash bar to make it easier to pick up if it ever happens again.

Did you order on line or through your Vic dealer? Also, if you don't mind, how bad did they hurt your wallet?

Victory saddle bag protection?

Does anyone have any experience on how good the Victory bars are? My bike came with those on the bike and I was just trying to figure out if they are just for show or actually have some functional protection built into them (they seem pretty stout). Thanks...RR :confused:
