Hey gang. Looking into building a tow behind trailer. Have seen alot of mentions for the kit from harbor freight and adding car top enclosure. looks appealing for costs and such and should fit my needs very well. My main questions are doing searches for hitch for bike and seem to be very limited on choices. Can this be built also? Or does someone have a few pics of ones they have on the XC? Just trying to save $ and not be spending on things that can be built. Also what should I be expecting if start pulling trailer with bike? Tire wear? Loading recommendations? Thanks again for all your input. Dave

I pull 2 different trailers one I bought off E Bay from Americas Best the other is from HF I built to haul our mountain bikes, 12" tire one. Both tow very well and I bought my hitch from BushTec.

Bike Trailer built from the HF 12" tire model I had to buy the diamond plate and used mule car top bike carriers as well.

I haven't pulled one yet with the XTC working on getting it set up. But I have pulled one with my Venture the same trailer as Ricksters Americas Best for thousands of miles. With any trailer watch your tongue weight when loading you can use a bathroom scale. Try and keep your tongue weight @ 35lbs or less. Anything over that and you may start to feel it in a tight turn or braking hard. Loaded correctly you won't know it is back there except at the gas pump. Again not sure how it will affect the Victory on that someone else will have to chime in. Lots of HF trailers out there and the consensus is they pull great just take your time assembling, repack the wheel bearings, and make sure the tongue length I think is twice the axle width I would have to go back and research that for sure. Basically tongue needs to be longer to prevent any sway. There are swivel balls available but in my opinion that's just extra cost never used one and never had a problem even through the twisties. I bought the Americas best because it looked good and was reasonably priced compared to some m/c trailers. would luv to have a bushtec but I can't justify the cost for no more than I get to use it maybe 3 or 4 times a year. There is also a Piggyback trailer not sure if it is sold by HF but do a search basically the same with car topper but one complete kit some where around $300 to $400.00 just have to do a search and shop around.

If you buy a harbor freight or some other trailer your best bet would be pull the bearings and go to a bearing store and get high speed bearings. Use good grease on them. Use lock tight and nylock nuts.

Looks like you are running a car tire on the back, hows that working?

Works great , got 24,000 miles out of the last one. I have been running car tires since 07 with my Goldwing .

I'm running a Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 ZP 195/55/16 @ 29lbs.

Hey Dave, I would like to know where you got your driving lights ? I bought a Piggybacker trailer and really like it.

So far so good , everything still working great. the only issue is when the driving lights are on they interfere with the FM radio, for me it's no big deal as I listen to XM satellite radio. I have call Big Bike parts in the past about the radio issue and they were unable to help and tried a few things myself ( just because I like things to work right ) but still no luck. Like I said it don't bother me as I don't use the FM radio. I have read where some HID kits do the same thing and not all bikes are affected , so who knows ?

I had a HF trailer, they had one that was a trailer with a car top type bed on it. See if they still have it. I pulled the bearings on mine,,, cruddy cheap grease in them. I would advise at least a repack or as suggested above quality bearings put in.

i see the harbor freight trailer is on sale now, but its got the 8" wheels, would the 12" wheels be the suggested size? never pulled behind a bike, but thinking about it.

I have a couple trailers I tow, one (old) cargo and a camp trailer. It is easy to forget that they are back there. Like others stated, do your maintenance and never forget that you need to stop the thing!! I will be packing my bearings today on my camp trailer. Not that I think they need it but grease is cheap. I have had only one bearing failure, the seal went bad and trashed the bearing. I now carry spares. Tongue weight is important. I run a Bushtec hitch on the Vic, and had one on my Honda. If you are in serious twisties, try and behave. Other than that, have fun.

It does change your fuel usage, nothing that is a deal breaker.
