HC is right it'll handle like sh!t as that is one fairly big jump going to a 200 on a stock rim. The tire will be so deformed from squeezing it on it will be mushroomed on the top...

If you want the mounted tire to be 200mm wide, you will need a 6" rim. Spoon that thing on a stock rim it will wear like sh!t and handle like sh!t.
you got that right about the handling. as for wear ... i dont know how many miles were on my tire before i bought the bike but i have put 5,000 miles on it in the 2 years i have had it.

the tires have no cupping or uneven wear at all. based on how little it has worn down since i have had it , it looks like it could go another 3,000 but since it handles ill natured as i put it in my thread i am replacing it with a 180. your description of handling like **** is a more apt description of my bike.thumb up

Have any of you put a 200 on your Vegas? The vegas runs a 5.5 rim doesn't it?

rim specs

avon specs a 6.25" rim for their 200 X 55 X 18 tire, i was thinking about that on my 13 hammer but a pair of rims are $$$. with wire wheels a wider rim can be laced to the OE hub at a fair price, new spokes are required as well, i just remembered that bias tires can use a smaller rim than a radial with a correct fit, not sure what you have on there now.

i have an 03 vegas. the lettering on the rim shows it to be a 5'' rim.

i have a 200 on it and it looks like a balloon on the rim. handles like **** but could be a combination of old tire plus too big for the rim. " note tire combo was on the bike when i bought it 2 1/2 years ago ". the only modification that i can see was where they cut out a notch in the lower belt cover so the sidewall does not rub.

replacing it with a 180 this winter along with lowering it.

Do you think the 180 on the 5.5 will look nearly as big anyway and give me less headaches than going the 200? I don't want my bike to handle like sh*te. Someone said the 150 I currently have looks worse than what it really is because of the 3.5 rim. If that's right maybe a 180 in the big rim might be the sweet spot?

I ride a 2012 vegas eightball and although I have entertained the idea of going bigger I really love the look if my bike as is with the 180 rear tire. In the end is a very personal thing and you probably best served but going with your heart and not the advice of others.

My heart tells me 200! My main worry is that there is only 1 tyres out there that is white wall and a 200 on a 16 inch rim. If I put the 6 inch rim and it rubs I'm out of pocket big time. The 180 will fit but I think that is designed to go a 5.5 inch rim.

If they stop making the Vulcan tyre in the first post would a 180 tyre go on a 5.5 rim?

I know the Vegas runs a 180 on the 5.5. I know that works.

I am wondering what the 200 will be like back there but the thing is most people will only have put a 200 on their current 5.5 rim instead of a 6 inch one like a 200 is supposed to be.

Correct me if I am wrong but won't all big name tyres be radials?

I've run into a slight snag. The rear 200 tyre is only made in for the N. American market. I could import it but apparently all tyres in the UK must be E Marked so they could be illegal to run on my bike :(

1. Vegas rim is 5"
2. If a tire is a radial it will SAY SO. 180/55R-18
No R no radial.

180/55ZR-18 74W
180=tread width
55=sidewall percentage of width (180x.55=99mm)
R-radial, ZR performance radial
74=weight rating (830 lbs)
W=speed rating (sustained 168 mph)

Hi mate. Thanks for correcting me. I thought a Vegas ran a 5.5 inch rim now. Cheers.

I was going to put it in a 6 inch one. Looks like a 180 on a 5.5 is looking more sensible.
