I couldn't believe it. Someone on Facebook is selling a pair of black Tri Ovals that look pretty well used. The black tips looks like the powder coating is flaking off. I mentioned that they might look good painted to match my bike (High temp paint, that is) and someone said Eric from VicBaggers makes tips for them.

@PaiN Lo and behold: VicBaggers tips for Tri Ovals!

I bet them tips would look real purdy like on my bike .... but I'm done with the do-dads. My side panels, chin fairings and fairing deflectors need a serious paint job, those are what I'll be spending my prettying-up money on....the reast is going for cams and a Lloydz AF.

Will you be installing the cams yourself ?

I highly doubt it. Technically, I think could do the job with the help of the service manual......BUT, I do not have the right work space or equipment to do a job like this. This one I'm going to leave to the professionals. A pro with a dyno also, so I can ride it in, then ride it out 100% done.

it really gets me how much they charge for tips.
All they do is buy the right size aluminum tubing. Do some simple drilling and machining and some kind of anodizing. Then charge big money for them.

I've seen the R&D that went into these... They are machined from billet on a CMC machine. No "tubing" involved.
The process:
Buy sticks of aluminum
Program CMC mill
cut aluminum to length
mount blocks in machine
run program, takes several minutes to cut
remove from machine
powdercoat (by hand)
bake
Program mill
install powdered tip
run contrast cut program

To justify the cost of these, that can't make $20 a set. They are high labor and low volume pieces, but the quality is outstanding!

Almost anything that is made out of billet is a high waste kind of thing. you probably machine 80% of the piece of metal away to end up with what you get. I aint saying they are scalping you. just it aint in my budget. Billet makes nice stuff. But when you start with a %" block by 4' and cut most of it into metal shavings, it cant be a cost effective way to do stuff. looks cool and a nice piece, but man....

That's exactly how it's done... The beauty about billet is it last forever and is easy to maintain. FYI it's a CNC machine... Just wanted to tell you so some asshole doesn't flame you. Bike is looking sweet!

2 of my brother were tool & Die/machinist folks. Both ran lathes, milling machines etc in the days before the automated CNC machines got in a lot of places I think. I dunno how long those machines have been around, but I know they had to read blueprints and manually run the cutters etc. Pretty cool how it was all done.
