I just had to Google that one, see below for people like me ...

cranium Translate Button
[krey-nee-uh m]
noun, plural craniums, crania [krey-nee-uh]
1. the skull of a vertebrate.
2. the part of the skull that encloses the brain.

Also called braincase. Origin of cranium Expand 1375-1425; late Middle English craneum <Medieval Latin crānium < Greek krāníon skull; akin to ceratokoi·ə , cerebrum, cornu, horn

Examples for cranium;
He placed his gun underneath her chin and fired it “up into the cranium.”

Thanksgiving Day Horror: Minnesota Teens Killed in Alleged Break-In Matthew DeLuca November 27, 2012
At Padua, it has been observed that fowls have a cranium perforated by numerous holes, and hollowed out like a shell.

It is now well proportioned, the bones of the cranium, formerly flat, are arched.

In animals, the face greatly exceeds the cranium in extent; the reverse is, however, the case with man.
