Hard up cow cockies hunted them for their skins during the great depression, killed them by the tens of thousands. There are old photos around of trucks piled high with the skins.
This is a bit of a late response, and maybe a bit off thread topic, but this is one of the photos I was thinking about:

Sad to see now, but apparently it was an excellent fur, which got a good price in England as Australian Native Bear (its not).
The treatment for Koala Chlamydia continues to be refined too.
A couple were grunting away a couples of hundred metres up the hill last night, the noise carrying clearly down to the house.

Yesterday, I took a ride out to Montauk Point, on the Eastern end of the South fork of Long Island NY. After my lunch of a PBJ sandwich and a thermos of coffee, I headed home by way of Montauk Harbor and Sag Harbor.

It was in the upper 30's when I left home and was 36 degrees and snow flurries when I got home in the afternoon. 153 miles and a great trip.

Having hand wind deflectors, electric gloves, grips, and jacket liner, sure made for a comfortable trip.

A few weeks ago, I took a trip from my home on Long Island to NJ,for the start of a police escorted, Toys For Tots Run into Rockefeller Center in NYC. It was 20 degrees and I was very comfortable. I think I would be good in the mid teens, (if I could get my bike started.)

That's a lot of miles. I remember a time that that would have been after about 3 overhauls.

Had a perfect day. Cool in AM. Wife and I loaded up and took off on about a 200 mile ride for the day. Met up with some CMA folks over in Brandon, 45 mile or so loop, some lunch and a 90 mile or so return trip home. What a way to start the year.

It's going to be in the mid 60's here today. So I'm going to go riding a while need to keep the battery charged up.

Yesterday, had the XC serviced (10k mile service), mounted new tires (Dunlop Elite 4, front and back).

Today, taking her out for a spin to enjoy the hell out of the day, which is going to be in the 60s...

I walked by it this morning. This year weather is weird. We keep having days of 50's so I have not put winter cover on yet. Haha.

Backed out of garage, flipped key and............ a couple lights in dash and no fuel pump buzz. When I got home today I pulled the battery and like 5 volts. Its only a 2 yr old AGM. So now I'm supposed to throw another $100+ battery at it. This is crazy, I put an AGM in it because it was supposed to be "the best" Shoot the last wet battery I put in the Venture was 4yr old and still going strong.

Did you have a Battery Tender on it? If not, it's no mystery it died.

No need for a battery tender. It gets rode most every day here in Florida. It has been maybe a week since I rode, but crips if a battery cant hold a charge for a week, there is some serious construction problems.
