Been here for a while now, posted several times, started several threads, and to some degree, gotten to know a few of y'all BUT ... I don't really know anything about anyone and maybe a few (or more) are thinking similarly ... so how about saying a few things about yourself?

(if this has already been done, skip this thread and post a link to that one)

I'll start...

I'm 68. Average height, thin build (always have been) but no slouch. Married 3 times now. Have a 45 yr old son from 1st marriage (which lasted 1.5 yrs). Managed to stay with 2nd wife for 28 yrs and have finally found the right one in my current wife of 10 yrs.

She has twin gorgeous daughters who are 31 from her 2nd hubby and a 44 yr old son from 1st. We've become a very close family.

I've worked in the IT biz since 1987. Started out writing computer database programs, then got into teaching software. Learned networking and kept going from there as a self-employed consultant / trainer / business support / programmer / and network tech. Got out of self-employment in 2006 when I started working for a call centre as their sole IT person.

Before that I did a variety of jobs from Auto mechanic to autobody shop repair and owner to car and truck rental management to heavy truck rental and leasing to .. to.. to... gawd, the list is almost endless LMAO!

Been a biker since I was 10 although I never owned a bike until I was 22. Never owned a Harley but I will admit, if I could afford it I would. My son, on the other hand, is a die-hard Harley "wannabe". He has one but rarely rides it due to various reason's but he just can't imagine having or riding any other brand.

I'm somewhat of a loner-type guy in that I don't need (or have) too many close friends that I hang out with and I like it that way. Casual acquaintances and get-togethers is about all I need. I'm not religious ... I guess you could say I'm an athiest but I do believe in such things as destiny, that things happen for reasons, etc. I'm pretty much a "say it like it is" kinda guy and the word "diplomatic" is not in my vocab.

So guys, that's a little (well, maybe more than a little) about me ... what about you?

I'm 28, tall, average build. I've been married 2 years now and have a 1 1/2 year old son.

I am planning to purchase a Victory Cross Country here very soon. I currently own an 01 Suzuki Volusia (It's what I could afford at the time and it has grown on me). I will never own a Harley. I just don't like the look and feel of them. When I look at pictures of bike week, it further confirms my desire to never own one.

I have been in the Army for 8 years now as an Air Traffic Controller. beteen schools, I am trying to manage time to go take the SIFT exam (Flight Aptitude/leadership potential test) so that I can submit a Warrant packet.

You and I are very much alike, it seems.

I'm 55. 5'-9"-ish and 225. Third marriage. 3 kids, 3 steps, 36 thru 23 (the Brady bunch, the Brady bunch, that's the way we became the Brady bunch), 4 grandchildren and one on the way.

Started working at a motorcycle dealership when I was 14, after school and on weekends. Worked my way up to service manager. Went to the music business for 12 years or so (audio engineer). Got married for the 2nd time and got into construction... worked my way up to General manager. Went back to being service manager for a while at a big bike dealership because I thought it would be fun... now back to construction management again.

Started riding real motorcycles (clutch and gears) when I was 11. Owned a pile of dirt bikes and motocrossers. Raced in just about every kind of racing on dirt. Later, dabbled in Roadracing on asphalt. Migrated over to cruiser class bikes in 2001.

Non-religious. Raised Catholic, Catholic schools and all. Stopped believing in God when I was 12. Just didn't make sense to me. Later I examined a bunch of religions to see if there was anything that made more sense... answer was no.

Not a lot of friends, just a small group of people I associate with. As everyone here can probably tell by now, I'm not exactly a people person and I'm rather blunt and straight to the point in conversation.

How was that?

36 years old... 5'9" ish 185 lbs of what used to be some serious muscle. It's now slowly turning softer no matter if I work out or not. Married with 2 children, a dog and a cat. I design and sell drilling fluids to oil companies. I have been in the oil industry since 17, started on the floor of a drilling rig. I worked my way up from roughneck to Derrickhand and then became a mud man. I also did a couple years with a directional drilling company running an MWD tool and drilling. I started riding dirt bikes at 5 years old and started racing at age 16. I got reasonable good and did a couple seasons as pro... I was more of a fast intermediate than a pro.

Current status: 43, divorced with a super- smart 18 yr old Type 1 diabetic daughter who is about to head off to college. (most likely Mary Washington University) She left her useless mother's house a while back and lives with me. Been with the same woman since right after the separation- we tie the knot on May 2nd after 5 years. That will gain me a 23 yr old stepdaughter. (I've actually known them both since 1998)

Born in Lewiston, Maine. Lived in Auburn until about age 9. Dragged out of my house into some ghetto in Richmond, Va. Hated it. 1 move later into a borderline ghetto- I was done. (my mother and I have never been close- we still aren't despite both living in Richmond) Moved back to go live with Dad in Greene, Maine and that's where I stayed until military service in 1990. While on active duty- I spent weekend at my mother's place often during that time. (We could get along for a couple days at a time) Met my first wife in the last few months of service, ended up staying in Richmond for that and economic reasons. Maine has a bit of a rough economy anyway due to climate. Throw in Maine's historically liberal mindset- this resulted in many employers either dying or leaving the state. Just not a lot there.

Had my first very own dirt bike in 83, so I was 12 at that point. Far prior to that- Dad had me on his bikes since before I can remember. I couldn't tell you about my first ride if I had to. It was probably his 1975-ish honda dirtbike with the British racing green paint job. We bombed around on that thing in the fields that eventually became the Auburn Mall. He sat me on the front often and taught me the controls in the order that I was physically able to reach them. Clutch and throttle, then phased in "mock shifting". (I couldn't yet reach it) Then evolving to full control, but unable to actually hold up the bike. Then of course taking full charge of it.

I think the first real, full size street bike I took full control of- he was 100% passenger - was the 84(?) Honda CBX SS. (yes- the 6 cylinder) I could be 1 bike off, but I just don't recall if I rode the 1980-ish Yamaha XS 1100 all on my own or not.. I did control that bike myself, but I don't think he believed I was ready to hold it up in any situation on my own. I remember him sliding back and forth on the seat as we stopped and took off.

Worked a couple piss-ant jobs before getting into the car biz in 1995. Made good money for a good while, but that business just devolved into a disaster after 9/11. It's all about the management and owners getting paid- not you. EX wife didn't appreciate not having a couple grand a month for her to blow on herself- so separated from her and the car biz in 2010. I now work at Suntrust Mortgage HQ here in Richmond, VA doing what's called Loss Mitigation. Manager for a while, but got out of that when some pending cuts would have likely eliminated that position, and went back to being a regular workabee. So now I analyze the finances of distressed homeowners and decide if the bank will assist with keeping or liquidating their properties, or if they just need to be foreclosed.

That first marriage triggered a motorcycle drought in my life. Got my license (again) in 2008, but I had no financial ability to buy, and very little access otherwise from basically 1994 to 2013. Then one day (9/19) my father showed up and announced that "we were going to buy a bike tomorrow". And we did. Took the 14 Judge home on 9/20/13. We planned on buying a 2009 (I think) Vegas up in Maryland, but quite frankly- the seller was completely delirious. I ended up with a brand new 14 Judge for $3k more.

Interesting responses so far ... blunt as some (well, maybe one) may be ... ;) ;) :ltr: cheers

Few more tidbits about me ... mom and stepdad split when I was 14. They went their way, I dropped out of school and went my way. Became a sort of street kid till I was 17. Even spent some time in juvi during those years. It was during that time that I took automotive repair training. Got a job in a garage wrenching and continued in that field until I was 21. Finally went back to school at age 25 to get my GED (grade 12 equivalent).

Let's hear from more of y'all ... I find this quite interesting to read about other peeps lives.

I'm about 6'3" 285lbs, going on 58. Started out on mini bikes as a snot nosed kid, graduated to a honda minitrail 50, then to a 70 - that was at somewhere around 10-11 y.o. plus the occasional dirt bike. First real motorcycle was a Honda CB 450, went to a KZ1000 after that, a GSXR 1100 after that, a Vulcan 1500 after that, a Kawasaki ZR 1100 after that, then my 06' Hammer, then the 2010 XC (big bore kit, etc.), and currently my 13' XC. Have had 4 back surgeries, a total knee, and various other calamities. Religion? I believe in God, do I live it, no, but I also don't want to live a lie. I try to treat others with the same respect as is given to me, but won't take any ****, too dam old for that. Been married just once (still am) for 30 years. No kids of my own, but have 2 stepkids, and each have 1 of their own. Granddaughter is 21, grandson is 12. I've worked in many different construction trades from Union Iron worker, carpenter, painter, Insulating & sheetmetal mechanic to residential appraiser for several years. I'm now retired, wife is a nurse - has been for 40+ yrs.

Dillpickle is a handle I used playing online games when I was a younger whippersnapper in my forties. Just kinda stuck.

I’m 56, 5’ 11”, 240 lbs, married 26 years, son 17 and daughter 23 that just got her RN license plus a good job. I am a devout Christian and have been a majority of my life. Had plenty of time to work out my faith with fear and trembling and have no doubt that Jesus is the son of God and that one day all will bow and confess that He is Lord. I don’t push my belief on anyone just make an effort to live it.

Mom died from congestive heart failure and alzheimers in 2008. Dad is 83 and lives with my brother. My wife’s mom is 93 and lives with us and has been… for 25 years. Imagine that!!!

26 years with an insurance company. Blessed that it has a great pension that I hope to get to take advantage of some day. Wish I could sooner than later. I love to ride. Often ride with an older friend but love soloing it. I’m a loner that loves people! I love coffee, wine, beer, Jimbeancinnamon, mild cigars, puppies, babies, weather, news, various styles of music, the walking dead and the blacklist tv shows.

The Victory Vegas is my 5th bike. Started riding in 2011. I totaled my first one by grabbing front brake while turning in light gravel on asphalt going only 5 mph. Total shocker! The vtx1800 I owned was a monster bike. I would still have it if it had not been a gas guzzler and had a bigger tank.

I believe that the Vegas will be with me longer than any of the others.

52 years old, 6'6" tall, 235 lbs. Mom died when I was 14, I joined the Navy at 19 and that is where I spent the next 26 years.
Married at 22, wife was 28. We had 2 kids and spit after 17 years of marriage. Married again now and 100% delighted with my life.
Never owned a motorcycle before my current one. Rode my brothers Honda 350 a bunch when he was not home and I could find the key. Rode friends' bikes when I got the chance, but quit when my best friend was killed running from the cops.
Rode by myself when I got my XR until I met up with Half_Crazy and we've been riding buddies every since. I've learned a lot from him and appreciate his friendship. Yeah, yeah, he's blunt and can be a bit crass, but he's a good dude and fun to hang out with. thumb up

Just about 50 and riding since 13. Retired USAF (munitions), son of a retired USAF Civil Engineer (had to try to keep it in the family since my brother went Army and became a Cobra pilot), and now USAF civ. Level headed (kind of important working with explosives) and type more than I talk. Like to give people **** and tell it like it is so being quiet helps keep my mouth from getting my ass in trouble.

Interesting how the age is quite similar between everyone.

I'm 47, riding since I was 18, had a few bikes, 2 kids and with wife, huge mortgage (Sydney will do that to ya), work in the music industry. Also, I was born in New Zealand, lived in Fiji, and call Australia home sweet home :)

I'm 39. Married 20 years, this year. 2 kids, 14 and 7. I am a Senior Field Service Engineer, according to my wife that makes me a glorified car mechanic, but I travel Mon.-Fri. servicing sheet metal fabricating machine tools. Wanted to ride since I was 6-7, but grew up wicked poor. Once I got old enough, all of my money was spent before I made it. Then every time that I would ask my wife, the answer was "no". I would bother her about once a year for it, just to get the same response. This past year she finally told me "yes, I don't want to be on my death bed and regret you never having something you wanted". That day (so as to not miss out on the approval), I made a deal on a bike. Got a 2000 Yamaha V Star 650. Really learned how to ride on that bike and it was time to upgrade. Just recently bought a 2009 Jackpot and I'm still trying to get used to the additional weight. Loving it so far.
