Polaris in it's wisdom killed off Victory. They killed off the style and features of our bikes.

It's interesting to see Harley Davidson are now releasing 2018 models with upside down forks, piggy back pipes and more.

Victory wasn't to blame, it was pathetic Polaris brand management and R&D.

Oh well I least I now own a collectable.

When I saw the 2018 HD line-up and what the MoCo has done, I pretty much had the same thought. Over just a few model years HD has thoroughly modernized and revitalized their bikes. If you notice, all of it has decently done advertising and marketing to go along....
Who knows, down the line when I'm ready for a new scoot, maybe HD will have the right bike for me....

The new HD "VCTYFX Kingpin" is set for release in the 2019 lineup ... Comes with a commemorative gold laced thank you card to Polaris .

Of the 17 'new' models the Dyna was the only one truly redesigned. As Polaris showed us...twisted pipes and new paint jobs do not make a 'new' model. With the exception of the M8 which will be standard in quite a few more models.

But they needed to innovate and redesign. The stock has dropped pretty hard and they are at a 'Strong Sell' rating right now. The largest complaint among potential buys is the cost.

Second largest complaint is the fact they do not even use 50% American parts anymore. If they did the cost could be better justified.

Now, if HD were priced around the same as the foreign bikes for similar packages they would recover the market losses. One Euro bike at lower cost at a better design ( and my local HD dealer sells them ) is a Triumph and their value drops faster than a Vic. Great bikes, I love the engineering. BMW has more bikes in higher teen range of the thousands with a ton more options. Guzzi, also solid bikes. As are the Japanese bikes.

One theory I do not push too much is the fact that Vic has become more noticeable and recognized this past year. I spoke to a guy I trust quite a bit who has 2 Vics and rides the snot out of them. He says he has had 3 dealers and 1 Polaris engineer tell him that within 2 years the Vic riders would once again be very happy, that they know they screwed the pooch dropping the line.

However none will tell him exactly what, not the engineer nor the dealers.

So speculating ( largely due to them NOT selling the design, name and tooling ) that they may bring back the Vic, whether under another name or the same is a guessing game...they would have 2 American made bikes on the market.

Perhaps if Injuns keep moving fast the cash will be there to market Vics and redesign them in more modern ways.

At first I thought nah...they are dumping their parts and accessories like rocks. BUT I also know manufacturing carrying costs for stock can be expensive. I have seen many corporations do this to reduce the carrying / storage costs and take the tax breaks on the losses which ups the bottom line.

But what I do know is HD has been hurting, and to have a company that large with as big a market share as it has be placed in a Strong Sell rating for the stock market does not bode well.

SO I applaud them for the attempt....it means they are least looking at what riders of today want, young and old. They dropped the Ducati buyout, but they WERE in the market. They also owned Brutale Aprilia for a few years as well. They have had Italian models since the 70's....Aermacchi doing the dirt bikes and smaller road bikes in the 250-350 CC range.

Its easy to bash Indians....BUT what IF they are selling them to gain that market and have the finances down the line to actually sell both lines?

That would satisfy both USA made big Twin riders for the clackers and the 106...and maybe a water cooled Vic engine with some newer aesthetics.

Again speculation...but it would be nice to see.

Interesting, to say the least. I was not surprised that they didn't sell off the tooling or the brand, as I would expect them to not want any more competition to Indian which I hear from various folks is doing very well.

If Polaris sees the light, and brings the Vic back, I wonder how many of the "Screw Polaris" group will forgive them? Personally I am not so invested in Polaris that I was royally upset by their decision to cut Vic (I understand why they did it), just a bit disappointed. I am curious to see if a revival would be widely accepted now. I wonder, if the brand is revived, if will it be enough to bring them back to where they were prior to their disco announcement at the beginning of the year. If Vic was going to make a comeback, you know that decision would have had to have been made long before those rumors came out. Would they have completely liquified their current parts and accessories as they just recently did if they were talking about bringing it back?

I knew the HDs had some foreign parts in there, more than the Vic, but it's over 50% now? Ouch, that's gotta hurt. These rumors will be interesting to watch...

HD has between 43% and 48% depending which source you get the info from. Most made in China, some Japan.

Like I said liquidating parts could mean bottom line for manufacturing carrying costs and tax breaks. It also may mean they plan to re-label? No clue. All speculation right now. Guess we may know by this time next year.

Don't forget that Victory merely getting "back to where they were prior to their disco announcement" would NOT be sufficient. They were discontinued because their situation prior to the announcement was not profitable or not adequately profitable. They would need to rise from the dead to a position (sales/profit) that was substantially better than it was prior to their obituary.

I agree... but if you don't spend money you cant make money. Polaris didn't market their bikes. PERIOD. I never heard of Victory until I went to a Honda dealer and saw one. If you don't make people envision themselves riding down the open road with their hair flowing in the breeze .. they wont buy it. For years HD did this made in America Bullshit and marketed the **** out of it. The American media does this every day... Blitz them with bullshit relentlessly and sooner or later people will buy it simply because it is a HD To me its like those 'Fidget Spinners"; Dumbest fucking toy on the market. But Marketing along with the media showing all these kids playing with them,made them an overnight success. So basically HD is a fidget Spinner on two wheels.They created a culture, just as Obama created a culture of snowflakes, transvestites and terrorists. Once that is done, it is hard to get rid of it.

Oh, I am fully aware. My point-of-view was merely reaching that status, not that it would help them for any long-term success. I completely agree that Polaris would need to surpass that by quite a bit.

I don't think this is fair or accurate. It could be argued quite reasonably that their marketing was insufficient or poorly designed but to say they had no marketing is simply not the case. The first I heard of Victory and the reason I checked them out was the advertising/marketing they had featuring R. Lee Ermey with the catch phrase, "Ride one and you'll own one." How can you not trust Gunny Hartman :)

Kurbs; it would bring a huge smile to my face to see them bring Victory back. Even if it's in a more limited form. It just makes them that much more unique.

Broggy, I can't speak for everyone but I would forgive them if they brought Vic back, since everyone is entitled to make mistakes. The key is to own it and make it right then move on.

They did market Vic's; just not in a very good way. They need to consult actual riding bikers and not only get their input but also their impressions on an ad before releasing it to the gen pop. Not just motorcycle enthusiasts; real bikers who live it.

The leadership may not have to have an understanding of how bikers think when it comes to their product but those leaders better damn sure have someone who does that they listen to.

What percentage are you thinking? Lower or higher foreign made parts?

It was well known Victory had more American made parts. What that percentage was; I don't know.

I didn't know about victory until my brother in law showed me a picture of the "coming soon" Highball. I ended up buying the first one in Ohio. I've been a fan ever since. I was salty when Victory was axed, but I'm not brand loyal to anything, so I didn't feel I truly lost anything. I would welcome a revival though.

I've seen numbers like Victory = 88% US and H-D 45% US. No idea if those are reliable numbers or not though. Way too many Victory items have "Made In China" tags on them in my opinion.

I've only seen people post numbers they have "heard". Someone post a direct link to these percentages.

As for me, I have no idea.

Victory coming back? No idea. It simply never made sense to close it down in the first place. Why in the world would the nitwits running Polaris care if people bought one of their Indian models or a Victory model. They 'had' two options to capture the big twin Made In The USA market. Now through their own stupidity, they only have one option.

They certainly did have Victory Marketing. Just not much that made any real world sense to current and/or potential buyers of the brand. They essentially killed Victory with the Indian promos saying that finally there's another American choice. When they had that 'other American' option all along. They were simply blinded as to what they had for what they wanted.

Some of us have had this discussion before but I think Polaris went to hard after HD in their marketing, especially when the Cross bikes first came out. IMO they should have just ignored HD and not even have mentioned them in their ads. I also didn't know a thing about Victory till I was on a bike trip with some buddy's back in 2010 and staying in a hotel in Murphy NC there were two Vegas models parked under the awning. The guys on the Vics were admiring my little zuki M50 as I was in awe over their Victory's. I soon hit the web and learned more and 2 years later I had my own.
