My new bike came with the large detachable windshield that is higher than I like and can't be lowered far enough for me. Cutting it down seems pretty straight forward but before I go ahead and chop it I just wanted to check and see if anyone has done it and run into any 'gotchas'.

Thank you.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Maybe 3" off the top of a tall lock and ride on my Kingpin.

I cut 2" off of the one on my Cross Roads.
I covered the shield on both sides with painters tape to avoid scratches and damage.
Then I used a protractor to mark the line on it.
I then cut the shield with a band saw, leaving about 1/16 of an inch to grind.
Then I used a belt grinder to get the cut somewhat uniform and smooth.
Next I used a file to further smooth the edge.
When I had it shaped and smooth, I then used 500 grit sand paper to sand and polish the edge.
I then removed the tape and installed it.
It turned out great.
It took about an hour and a half. I wanted to make sure it had a good finish.

I haven't tried this myself, but I hear that taking a propane torch to the edge will smooth it out.
