Change your oil
Put your tires up on blocks of wood
Fill gas as full as possible
Clean bike
Hook up battery tender
Put cover on bike that breathes
Do Nut Run Bike unless your going for hundred mile ride

Fall checklist:
Do I know what I did with my jacket liner? Is it cleaned and ready for another season?
Are my gloves still in good shape?
How badly worn are the lined jeans?
Are the seat and grip heaters still working?
What did you do with that cover? You will need to find it before a snowstorm.
Are your boots going to be OK for another season?
Where did you put the scarf that keeps air from blowing up under your helmet?

I gotta side with Oldman on this.
I've got the cover ready for the rainy season ( what many of you call 'Winter').
Just got new insulated Chaps and cool/cold weather riding gloves.
The liner is in the jacket and my hoodie is ready to go.
All set for rainy season in the Mojave.

Is there a reason to change the oil before you put it away?...I usually just changed mine in the spring, just figured it didn't pay to have brand new oil just sitting in the bike when I could just change it in the spring and have fresh oil and something to do on the bike right away in the spring thumb up. But if there is a legit reason why to change it in the fall I am all ears :)

Winter IS coming... the temperatures will dip below 80 soon, will probably have a couple of months in the 70's soon.... lots of sunshine, blue skies.... probably will switch to a long sleeve t-shirt.... it's a lot to handle, but I'm ready.

Living in Galveston Texas, we get winter about every ten to twelve years. Other than that it is riding weather year round, no checklist to worry about.

I guess it is south compared to the great white north but a little south of Chicago is still in snow country. I will often ride at what you would call 5 below zero. I had to travel almost 200 miles to the north to cross the border at Sarnia but I sometimes also ride that far north or south in a day often enough. In summer the cooling I was hoping for when I went north never did happen.

The reason is said that ....... Burning gas causes an acidic byproduct in the oil. That acid could damage the soft (plain bearings) in the engine. Mainly rod end bearings.
So most people dump there old oil for fresh oil so there is no contaminants sitting in the motor all winter...

When spring comes fire it up and ride.......

The arguments start when some people start the bike for a short time after the oil and filter change. They do this to get the new oil on all the internal parts. Why change the oil if the acidic oil is still on all the internal parts and the new oil is just sitting in the case...

Others say just change the oil and filter and do not start it....
