While I'm still on my old Vulcan 1600 Classic and have yet to make the jump to something else, after yesterday's tortuous ride out in the Atlantic Canadian country roads that are mostly potholes and bumps and are only getting worse over the years it seems, I need to get something else that can make the ride more bearable.

I know that a sport-tourer or adventure bike might be the ultimate solution, as I have frequent lower back problems, so the cruiser seating position isn't the best thing for me. But I think that I prefer a cruiser over all.

I was thinking that maybe something like the Judge, with its mid pegs that allow you to stand a little bit, might be ok for roads that are sometimes less then perfect.

Plus, it looks like the Judge's suspension is quite a bit better then my old Kawi. Is the suspension on the Judge the same thing that's on the touring bikes? Or is it more like the suspension on the Vegas, Hammer, etc...

Maybe an aggressive bike like the Judge would be a good solution to my problems, short of going with a sport-tourer, adventure bike.....

The Judge is a good bike but it may not be the best on rough roads. The suspension is pretty much the same as a Vegas but with a wider/fatter front tire it feels a little harsher on the bumps. The big front tire makes it feel rock solid on the highway to the point that it takes almost as much work to turn as a fat rear tire (I.e. Hammer, Jackpot) bike.

The stock shock on the Judge is pretty stiff. Wouldn't be my choice for a bumpy road. They do however offer a 1" longer version that I'm pretty sure is the stock Kingpin shock. If so, that would probably work as the Kingpin does a much better job of bump absorption.

The Judge looks great but I sat on it and the riding position would be horrible IMO. If you want something that would "ride out" good look to a Cross Roads or Cross Country and put the pullbars bars on it to take the pressure off your back. The floorboards are HUGE and can give you a forward or a mid position without changing bikes to do it. I've even put my passenger floorboards down and used them to change up my riding position once in a while on a long stretch of road. You also get the benefit of the extended travel rear suspension the "core" framed bikes offer.

+1 for the Cross Roads. Comfortable, almost 5" of suspension travel front and rear, and you can set it up the way you want it to look when you ride it away from the dealer. I've been riding 60 years and hated cruisers, but age, cancer and a back had me looking at them, although with disdain. Then along came the Cross bikes. Bingo! I have never owned a bike more that does what I need it to so well. For the first time in decades, I have only one bike, a Cross Roads.

Floor boards that move.

Remember that the floor boards adjust front and back and the shift linkage and rear brake does also.Being 5'7" the dealer set the floorboards the far back position. Was looking at the Kingpin until they informed me of the adjustable floorboards on the Cross bike. Have a 2011 XR now, also love the hard bags.

Wait... Did I miss something? Do the floorboards really adjust? I know the foot controls slide back and forth and the handlebars can be moved up and down but this is the first I heard anything about the floorboards adjusting.

Maybe adjustable floorboards were available only on 2011s sold in Arizona. They sure don't move on my 2010 bought in Oregon. No need to have them move, they are so long that I can rest my feet anywhere. When getting on the bike, I place my left foot on the board and don't have to lift my right leg as high when swinging it over. Us old guys like that. thumb up

My owner's manual states that the brake pedal and gear shift pedal controls can be adjusted. There is a single bolt underneath the footpeg that comes out. The pedals can then slide in a track to one position closer or another position further away from the rider.

I ride my XCT on an unmantained dirt road every day. It is .8 miles from my house to the pavement. Best dirt bike evah!
I find my XR remarkably stable and easy to handle even in soft gravel. I always thought my Vulcan was going to make an attempt on my life on gravel roads.

I can attest to this as I just went out and did it. Moved mine back to the midget setting and I am quite pleased. It wasn't bad before, but even better now.

I did have to diddle with the double headed dildo bolt and re-adjust the linkage clamp on the spline shaft on the shifter side, but no biggie.

Floor board.

Look close at the floor board and you can see the space between the engine guard and the floorboard. Way to go Saddlebag!thumb up

What I see is that your dealer f*ck'd up. They did not adjust your two headed dildo bolt and now your shifter looks like it has an erection!

It's since went limp,ha,ha.

Yes I know. That was shortly after bringing it home. I have since adjusted the over excited shifter back down for my size boots. Was not happy the way they had it. Did not feel like screwing with having to deal with them for the adjustment. :crzy:
