Just finished up getting quotes from GEICO and Progressive for a 2011 X/C. I called GEICO first because they insure my current bike. They came in at $364.00 per year. Progressive came in at $239.00 per year. The coverage and deductibles are the same. I was really surprised Progressive came in $125.00 below the Gecko. :D

I've been with GEICO with my last two street bikes, but I'm willing to switch. thumb up Has anyone else had the same experience while comparing the two Insurers?

I have USAA and didn't have much of a choicde; they don't do powersport policies -- they sent me to Progressive. I must say that Progressive is very reasonable, I have full coverage on my 2008 V-Star 1100 custom and my 2011 CR. I pay about $200 per year for both of bikes.

Geico is probably more expensive because of the Gecko; Progressive has Flo who already speaks english -- Geico had to raise their rates to pay for someone to teach the Gecko to speak. :D

Progressive here too. Was the lowest quote on same coverage. Others were even more than double for the same coverage, in my case. It doesn't mean though that Progressive will be lowest for everybody. There are a lot of factors involved. Smart shoppers do their shopping! :)

I have been using Progressive for several years. I do a comparison quote every year and progressive wins every year. My rates has dropped every year for the past 4 years.
My 1800 VTX is $10 a year for full coverage. Can't remember the other 3 right now.
I had a accident in my car a month ago and they have been top notch taking care of me.

DD,
Glad you mentioned something about claims, I was going to ask about that after this thread got a few more hits. I was a little concerned about going to a new insurance company; I had USAA for years and didn't need Progressive until I bought my V-Star.
Good to hear they're easy to deal with. Accidents cause enough stress, nobody should ever have to argue with their insurance company after getting smacked.

Yep. I save a couple hundred per year by switching to Progressive from Geico.

Seems like every three years, whatever ins company I'm with, starts playing games with my rates so start doing a bit of shopping. In this case Geico lost me as a customer for my MC but retained me for my car. Once I told them what was up; the magically came up with a better rate. Next year I'll check back with Geico to see what they can magically do.

No accidents, no tickets, and my credit rating is very good. I should have the lowest rate possible. Yes; your credit rating has a lot to do with your insurance rate.

My Crossroads

I have Geico on my 2010 Crossroads. Haven't had as much as a parking ticket since 1983 and it is costing me $311.00 a year with $500 deductible. They are very easy to deal with so I think I will stay right there....

This was not a error. I am in the process of doing a make over and knew it would take me close to a year to finish. So I went in to cancel the policy only to find out I was only being charged $10. The crazy part is I have additional $5,000 for custom parts. They had canceled it, then reinstated it. 4 days later I got a letter from the Alabama motor division wanting prof I had insurance on it.

Progressive gave me a check in 2 days and then after taking my car in the adjuster went to the body shop I am using (my choice) and and gave another check. I has hit pretty hard in the drivers side that shoved me through 5 lanes.

I am very happy with progressive.

Progressive is very competitive with motorcycle insurance. If I remember my stats correctly Progressive is the number 1 motorcycle insurance company at this time.

I don't know if you got a quote on line. I am assuming you have no traffic violations or claims that would affect your premium.

Sometimes when quoting on line you are given a generic quote then reports (trafic violations and claims) are ordered when you indicate you wish to proceed with the application. If anything shows up on these reports then the premium could change.

I've been with Progressive for a long time and when someone rearended me in '03' they were on it the next day . He was uninsured and had a suspended license so Progressive had to take care of everything and they even offered me a settlement ! Of course I had to bump them up a little . The end result was that they didn't raise my rates because of it . I'm sold on them .

Been using Progressive for years. Was paying $321 for two bikes. Everytime I check out other companies I find Progressive to be be lowest price. My auto insurance company does not like top insuree bikes and wanted $1,200 for one bike. I am 63 years old with no debt and very good credit. This does indeed make a difference.

The insurance indusrty is very fickle. I quote insurance every 6 months. Why? I had insurance with Markel. They were at least $400.00 cheaper than everyone else in 2006. I kept the insurance through 2010. When I tore Porti down to the frame I suspended my insurance since I wouldn't be riding for a few months.

When I went back they were one of the most expensive. Here is the weird thing. When I priced insurance in 2006 Progressive was $1000.00 higher than Markel.

I am now with Progressive because they are the cheapest by at least $350.00. They are cheaper than Markel by $700.00!

I just got quotes for Angel's car insurance. She will be switching to Geiko because the insurance company she is with now is $200.00 more than Geiko. 6 months ago Geiko was $500.00 more than the company she is with now.

What do you guys have as coverage on your cycle... I know the sky is the limit and low deductables but you need liability and Property Damage...plus you really need some underinsured motorist since there are so many out there...but, what does every have as limits..

50,000...100,000, 200,000 or 300,000

I know it is personal and all but wow, it gets expensive when you get into the 300,000 mark...not so much for Bodily injury and property but the uninsured motorist is expensive!!!!!!

I have $500,000 liability limits as well as $500,000 uninsured and underinsured limits.

One thing to think about- we always assume it will be a driver of an auto that causes an accident. What if riding in a group someone would cause another rider to go down and be seriously injured or a death. I bellieve in higher limits to protect myself in the event of an incident I would be found liable for as well as protecting myself for an underinsured or uninsured driver causing injury to me.

I have this coverage for my 2011 XR:

- BODILY INJURY & PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY: BI $250,000 EACH PERSON - $500,000 EACH ACCIDENT

- PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY - $100,000 EACH ACCIDENT

- UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST: $250,000 EACH PERSON - $500,000 EACH ACCIDENT

- MEDICAL PAYMENTS $5,000 EACH PERSON

As far as having $500k limit for property damage, I think that's a bit over cautious. Honestly, how much property damage can you cause with your bike before it comes to a complete rest? :crzy:

I believe in spending more on bodily injury than property damage, but that's just my philosophy.

Also, I have fairly low medical payments coverage, as I have very good medical insurance through my employer. If you don't have that, then it might be wise to have higher medical payments coverage.

Seeing someone else's coverage might be a good starting point to compare what you have, but always customize your policy to your needs and specific situation. cheers

Through agent - I have a Mercury multi-vehicle policy, and they have the Progressive motorcycle insurance added in.

Just bought my 2012 XC Wednesday. Called Geico (who I have car insurance through) and they came back with $244. Called Progressive (who insures my current bike @ $78) and they quoted $173 for the XC. Guess which way I'm going?!?! Yup, me and Flo.
