Hey all,

So another thread got me thinking on this. I currently run a 2013 Jackpot but have been wanting to upgrade to a XC or XCT. I like the Vision but don't think I'm quite there yet so that's out.

I like the XC for the look and styling, especially the XC 8 ball. If I was to get one, I'd add some stuff to it for everyday use like chrome highway bars, ABS (Not sure if capable of doing), hydraulic clutch and a better stereo/speaker system. This is how I'd run the bike 90% of the time. The other 10% I'd add some stuff for Long hauls like the pizza box, passenger floor boards, taller windshield and cruise control (again no sure if able).

I haven't done major long hauls before because I've never really had the bike for it. So Cruise control, tall windshields etc.. are sorta "fluff" to me. I've never had ABS or a hydraulic clutch either so they fall into "fluff" for me as well.

However, knowing that I want to start doing long hauls the "Fluff" looks more like a necessity. I just don't see me needing/wanting to use them everyday. Minus the ABS and clutch of course.

For the last several weeks a local dealer has a stock 2015 XC 8 ball for sale for about $14K. To me this seems like a great deal. Especially if I take advantage of some the accessory coupons etc.. so that I can add the lickies and chewies I want. I'm estimating (suck at math) that I should be able to walk out the door with almost everything I want and the $4k left on my current bike for about $20k.

I haven't been able to locate a 2015 XCT for less than $18K near me or within a 100 miles. So I'm estimating (again, math bad) if I go that route I'd walk out the door with it for about $24-2$25k.

However, after reading through the forums I have a dilemma. Things are pointing to dropping the cash on a XCT since it has most if not all the things I want on it already.

My dilemma has to do with the "accessories" on the XCT that I don't want to run all the time like the tall windshield and Pizza box. Are they easy to take on and off? From what I gather the pizza box is but the changing out the windshield??

So in a nut shell I want a long haul bike with all the amenities when I'm on the road but I also want to be able to strip it down for my daily commute or bar hop.

So any advice, insider info, owner suggestions are welcome.

When you say 'pizza box' I assume you mean the trunk. Remove 2 security screws, flip up 2 levers, unplug one cable and the whole thing comes off.
The windshield is secured to the bracket by 6 sets of screws and nuts. The bracket for the XCT is also larger than the standard XC. But other than that, that's really it.

Yeah, I mean the trunk. Damn me and my slang.

You mentioned the bracket being bigger? Which bracket are referring too? The windshield?

Yup. The standard XC has a standard windshield and the XCT has a larger bracket that bolts on for the larger Windshield. I believe all I have to do is remove that larger bracket and I'll be able to bolt on a standard windscreen.

You could save a ton of money by buying a late model used one if you can get the financing for it and selling your JP outright. Of course if you sold the JP first; you would know exactly how much you had to work with. Also, living in AZ, you would not have to pay tax on a person to person sale not involving a dealership. That's a lot of savings right there.

Broggy pretty well covered your questions already. I would say that you will be bucks ahead if you get a regular XCT rather than an 8 Ball model and then have to add to it. I bought my XC then the next year the XCT came out. I basically added the trunk and lowers to make it into an XCT. It would have been cheaper to buy the XCT but it was not available yet at time I bought mine.

The windshield can be switched out with an aftermarket shield that uses the same 4 bolts as the shorter shield if you wanted a quicker and easier change over. You could also get one that fit you just right for touring. I'm not sure if you look over or through the tour shield. Depends on your height. There's also the option of the Madstad brackets which I swear by that give you an adjustable windshield. Some people don't care for the look though. To each their own on that one.

As had been said, buying a used CCT (Cross Country Tour) could likely be a very good choice. The only difference besides color options between a 2012 CCT and a 2016 CCT is that the 2012 came stock with the Victory factory HID headlight. Which works wonderfully by the way. If you ever think you may at some point desire the CCT trunk (easily holds two full face helmets), CCT lowers (on or off in about 30 min), heated seat, heated grips (work great), taller windshield, ABS (works wonderfully), cruise control (use mine all the time), AM/FM/WB/Aux radio; the CCT is by far your best option.

The CCT trunk and mounting brackets come off in 5 minutes and the CCT becomes an awesome buffeting free bagger. The CCT windshield has 6 mounting screws onto brackets the CC doesn't have. That's because the CCT windshield is taller and it's also held off the bike a bit as part of the excellent CCT airflow/wind management system. I bought an aftermarket CCT shield that's 3" shorter but still uses the 6 point mount. Having the shield be held off the fairing a bit allows for airflow behind the shield to help reduce buffeting. Something the CCT doesn't have but the stock CC does.

On some years the CCT had specific colors; 2012 had pearl white, 2013 had bronze mist, 2014 offered some two two models etc. If you want a black bike, it's a no brainer to get any model year CCT. From 2012 to 2016, except for the HID factory headlight on the 2012, the CCT is identical.

I think you've gotten great advice and information from member replies. The only thing I can think to add is to consider the option I've done, keep the Jackpot and buy a XC. I'm partial to red but hey.... black goes with everything.

It's far easier to take it off the bike then purchase the extras.

After you ride it, you might not want to take some of the things off.

AND "the pizza box" is large enough to hold a large pizza box.

I'd keep my JP in heart beat if I could.. trust me. The old lady has different ideas.

Yes sir, you'll be happier with the XCT than just the XC. Much easier and less costly to remove items and change it up than add on. Look for a low miles 13 or 14 and you'll save even more.

First off there are way too many blacked out bikes on the road. Secondly, get the XCT. I tried to add all the extras after buying a XC. After passenger floor boards, heated grips, heated seats, backrest, etc. I realize that I should have just gone with the tour.
