Hey guys, I've owned my 2011 Cross Country for a couple of weeks now and I'm really enjoying the bike. But I had a question that I can't seem to find the answer. It seems that in every magazine article I've read the Cross Country makes less power than the Vision on the Dyno, especially in the low RPM Torque. They mention it here specifically in this review between the Stratoliner and the XC.

Does anyone know why the XC seems so down on power compared to the Vision? To me they should be identical. They both have the stage 1 Freedom 106, CORE Technology, and they are both touring bikes. Is it just that rubber strip around the airbox that is used to make the intake noise quieter hurting the XC?

The only reason why I ask is because I'd like to improve the low end torque of the bike. I came off of a Yamaha Raider to the XC and this Freedom V-twin runs good, but compared to the 113 V-twin in the Yamaha that I am used to it feels pretty anemic.

Not 100% sure but the stage1 they refer to is about the cams not the exhaust. I think the stock exhaust on the X bikes are quite restrictive and getting some better exhaust on can probably really help your mid-range power.

Stock Vision intake is much better then stock Xbike. EPA mandated a seal on the front of the intake box for the X bike, and it really stunts power. Remove the strip, and you get a free 3-5HP, and 7-9FtLb with the only side effect being a cool sounding intake

Thats what I was hoping was the cause but I wasn't sure. That intake strip will be coming off soon then. :)
