I'm a little shorter than you, and have the same bike. And have a very hard time in the early morning fog also. I'm considering the BaggerShield, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. There isn't much talk about it, so I'm still undecided. I'll be watching this thread to see what answers you get.

 

Yes...I've done the research! But everyone here knows as well as I do that all the research in the world is NOT the same as seeing it and feeling a part, mod, or paint job in person.

I'm 5'7" tall. I have for my past few bikes looked THROUGH the windshield. This bike, a 2012 White Cross Country Tour has the TALL Premium Windshield...but a couple of times I have been caught in a fog and I could not get high enough to see over the windshield to see.

I LIKE looking through the windshield. That's where I want to be...I ONLY want to look over the shield when I absolutely have to be looking over!

Here's what I know (or at least what I think I know).

Madstad - New, Innovative and very functional. But the looks (although they have improved...the shields still look like they don't belong on the bike. Getting POSITIVE reviews does help here. If you have this windshield...what do you think. Also TELL ME SOMETHING BAD about this product!!

I'm 4" taller than you and had the stock 18" shield, with the same problem for morning fog.

I've opted for the Madstad, and got their 13" Road Glide shield. I don't have a problem with the looks, as I think it goes with the bike just fine.

What I *DO* like is with my bad posture, I can still look through the shield and sit up straight to look over.

At your height, I'd really recommend their 11" shield. You'll have 2" of upwards adjustment if it's not tall enough. My other recent thread has some pics posted:

Here are some pics with the Madstad brackets and the tallest 12.5" VStream.

I think it works well with the brackets. I can look through it or lay it back and look over it. I'm currently running a dark shield but the VStream is more practical and it kept tractor trailer rig wind buffeting from causing shudder or slight wobble. On a long trip this is probably the one I'd use although I do have a 15" I look through all the time. It just isn't practical for somewhere I might hit fog or rain. OK for local use in the dry seasons.

 

Bob...I can't find it now, but I thought I read in another thread that there was a "problem" or "issue" with the Vstream installation process (not using the Madstad Brackets though).

What was the problem?

 

I'm not familiar with that thread. Maybe it was like the one shield through Victory that needed a rubber washer on the back of the shield or perhaps a rubber grommet.

 

I'm 6-2 and tried the Madstad and Vstream. Personally I thought the Vstream looked a little better but the Madstad (I went with the 13 inch) performed MUCH better. At 50+ MPH I still had quite a bit of buffeting on the Vstream where I had absolutely zero with the Madstad. To me performance far outweighed the looks. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't call the Madstad fugly but it doesn't look as nice as the stock blade windshield.

 

I may cut the 15" shield I have down to a more Madstad shield shape to give it a try. The dark shield I have on in the pic below is the best I have for a compromise in looks and performance/comfort. This may be why I have left it on as long as I have now. I have forgotten what make it is but it is a 13" which is about right for my 5'10" height.

 

I have tried stock and cee bailey and high and short. Went with the Madstad windshield and brackets and never looked back. Ride it high when its cold , down when nice out. Fully adjustable to suit me needs. I bought the bronze shield and love it. Finally I can throw out my collection of windshields..

 

I went with the tour style. I am 5, 9 and use the 11inch. I have a white tour and love the bronze. I think the madstad looks cool, but looks dont matter when riding in the rain

You mentioned RAIN...have you rode in the rain with this windshield...I'm VERY close to pulling the trigger on one.
