Just got my 2008 Vegas Low yesterday and was riding home when suddenly the Speedo and Odometer stopped working. Tried pulling over and restarting etc. nothing happened though. still have backlighting for it but nothing as far as speed and mileage... any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

the speedo on my 09 quit working at 1200 miles. Couldn't figure it out, and I ended up needing a new one. I don't know if they take a bounce or a rock just right and decide to bite it, or what. No amount of wire jiggling would bring it back to life. I traced the harness all the way back, checked and rechecked the fuses, no dice. I took it to the dealer, and they installed a new one. It wasn't under warranty, so install was expensive, and it ended up resetting the odometer...TL;DR: Check the harness and all contacts, fuses-if they're ok and getting power, just get yourself a new gauge, or try to find a salvaged set.

ok update... I messed with the connecter that is located on top of the tranny/gear box... wiggled it around disconnected and re connected and it started to work. then while riding the other day I look down and it is bouncing all of the place anywhere from 10-20 mph difference. so with that being said any other suggestions. it is not the speedometer itself I imagine due to the fact that it is actually working. thanks for the help in advance.

Sounds like you need a new speed sensor. Which is the connected to the plug you wiggled on top on the left side of the tranny.
